The third team to join the competition, the Downloadable’s was created in December 2001 by Paul Riordan. Paul was a member of trustamate.com, and saw a great opportunity to start up a team. So Paul gathered, Mike Poulakakis, Ben Cook, Evan Stainsby and Marissa Egan. Marissa never played a game, and quit in early January. The Downloadable’s were born, and chose a home ground, nameless, it was decided that Victor Street would be a good choice. Our first game, Lightning Cup II, was started at Victor Street, but neighbour troubles forced us to move our game. The car park at Beaumaris Community Centre was chosen, and still remains to this day. At this game, we also saw the birth of vice-captain Poulakakis. Lightning Cup II was won by us, and then we were challenged again, Lightning Cup III was almost lost, but our triumphant attitude kept it safe. The next Downloadable challenge was to get another team into the competition. Acidic were born in June 2002, and are partially owned by the Downloadable’s.
Next saw the Lightning Cup disappear from the hands of the Downloadable’s in August 02. It is now in the hands of original cup winners, Blue Flames.
September saw the birth of the new logo for the upcoming final series. Season 2001/02 saw the Downloadable’s finish on top of the ladder. We are now ready for the finals and a great season 02/03 due to start in December sometime.
